H.H. Brown Shoe Company

H.H. Brown was Berkshire's first footwear acquisition 鈥?a comfortable, sensibly priced work and casual shoe brand. Unusually, H.H. Brown's management compensation was tied directly to the business's return on capital employed, aligning incentives with Berkshire's ownership objectives. It preceded and should not be confused with the disastrous Dexter Shoe acquisition two years later.
