Texaco (Bankruptcy Arbitrage)

During the partnership era, Buffett made several arbitrage investments in companies undergoing legal or financial restructuring. Texaco's bankruptcy in 1987 (the largest in US history at the time, arising from the Pennzoil litigation) created an arbitrage opportunity Berkshire participated in during the resolution process.
